
Rachel Ryu(Violin)
Rachel Ryu is part of the Class of 2021 at Archbishop Mitty High School. She began her violin studies under the tutelage of Byung-Woo Kim at the age of 8.
Rachel joined the California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra in 2012 and has been an active member since then. She served as the concertmaster for its associate orchestra during the 2016-2017 season. Aside from CPYO, she is a member of the HopeBox Charity Youth Orchestra, the KAMSA Youth Orchestra, and is a volunteer at AMASE.

Christy Kim(Violin)
Christy Kim is a student at Valley Christian High School in the Class of 2021. She has started playing violin from the age of six and is currently studying with Dr. Joo-Mee Lee. Christy was a member of the Chamber Music Ensemble at Valley Christian. She has also been a member of the California Youth Symphony since 2012 and is currently in the Senior Orchestra. Christy has won prizes at various competitions including the 2020 American Protégé International Concerto Competition, the 2020 United States Open Music Competition, the 2019 American Fine Arts Festival Romantic Music Competition, the 2019 United States International Music Competition, and the Silicon Valley Music Competition in 2019. She was also selected as an outstanding performer for the Junior Bach Festival in 2020. She has participated in the CASMEC All-State High School Symphony Orchestra and String Orchestra in 2018 and 2019. She has also been a member of KAMSA for two years. She has performed in master classes with Dara Morales and the Parker Quartet. Besides playing violin, Christy enjoys painting and reading. She is passionate about volunteering and sharing music in her community. She was also a teacher assistant at her local Korean School.

Aaron Park(Violin)
Aaron Park is attending Leland High School as part of the class of 2022. He started taking violin lessons at the age of 8 with John Kraus, and recently switched over to the instruction of Motoko Toba. He plays in multiple ensembles, including his school orchestra, the California Youth Symphony’s senior orchestra, and the Cambrian Symphony. When he isn’t playing violin, Aaron enjoys playing video games with friends and running long distance on his school's track team.

Jennifer J. Kim(Violin)
Jennifer J. Kim is a student at Monta Vista Highschool in the class of 2023. Jennifer started to play the violin at the age of 6 and is currently studying under Davis Law. Jennifer served as the concertmaster of the California Youth Symphony Associate Orchestra and now she is participating in the California Youth Symphony Senior Orchestra. She has attended California’s All State Orchestra, KAMSA Orchestra and Hop3Box Charity Youth Orchestra. She has won multiple awards in competitions, such as American Protégé, KAMSA Competition, VOCE Competition, USOMC, Junior Bach Festival and Korea Times Youth Competition. Jennifer also had many opportunities to play in master classes for Eduard Tadevosyan and Haik Kazazyan. She is also a member at the Academy of Music and Arts for Special Education, where she participates in helping kids with special needs in learning music. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys reading and listening to music.

Brian La(Viola)
Brian La is currently a student at Homestead High School in the class of 2021. At the age of 5, he started playing the piano but switched to the viola at the age of 10 under the instruction of Byung Woo Kim. Through music, he has been able to volunteer at several organizations to help the community. He volunteers at AMASE, which teaches music and art to people with mental disabilities. He is also a member of Topaz and Muse, organizations that volunteer at senior centers and hold benefit concerts. Each summer, Brian volunteers at Hop3Box Charity Youth Orchestra, which holds benefit concerts to raise funds and donate it to children going through difficult times through UNICEF.
He is a principal of the California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra which he is a member since 2015. In school, he is the president of Tri-M Music Honor Society which shares music with the public and a member of Chamber Orchestra. Brian has won in various competitions such as Korea Times Music Competition, BAMA US International Music Competition, USIMC, AFAF, American Protege, KAMSA Competition, and numerous others. Also, he has attended CASMEC All State Orchestra and Innsbrook Institute Summer Music camp. Aside from music, Brian has interests in Taekwondo, programming, and mathematics. During his free time, he enjoys watching anime and solving puzzles.

Sihyun Jeon(Viola)
Sihyun Jeon is a part of the class of 2021 at Leland high school.
He started playing the viola at the age of 10 under the instruction of Mrs. Yunsun Kim.
Sihyun won second place in the United States International Music Competition high school division in 2019 and was awarded in KAMSA Competition in 2018 and Silicon Valley Music Competition in 2015. He also performed at NCVS YVC (Northern California Viola Society Youth Viola Competition) as a selected finalist in 2020.
Sihyun participated in CASMEC (California All-State Music Education Conference) 2020, and he performed with various ensembles such as KAMSA youth orchestra 2017 and 2018 and SVYS since 2016. Currently, Sihyun is the principal violist at his school orchestra, a member of California Youth Symphony Senior Orchestra and Muse ensemble, and the regional director of Back to Bach Project: San Jose, introducing classical music to elementary school students through presentations and demonstrations. Besides viola, Sihyun enjoys playing guitar and volleyball.

Daniel Yoon(Cello)
Daniel Yoon is currently a sophomore at Leland High School. He has been playing the cello since the age of 8 and is studying cello with Kyeoung Hwa Kim ever since. Currently, he is in the California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and participates in his school orchestra. After performing at senior centers, Daniel found his passion to share music to others and joined MUSE. In his free time, he likes to play sports and hang out with his friends.

Elliott Kim(Cello)
Elliott Kim, 15, is a sophomore at Archbishop Mitty High School. He began piano at age 6 and a year later began cello studies under the tutelage of Mrs. Kyeong Hwa Kim. He was the winner of KAMSA competition in 2020 & 2017 and USIMC in 2019, respectively. He was additionally awarded from 2020 Burlingame Music Club competition, 2019 Junior Bach Festival, 2018 Pacific Musical Society Competition, and many others. He was also a two-time winner of the concerto competition of California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra in 2017 & 2019 and made his solo debut at age twelve with CPYO orchestra as a soloist in 2017. Elliott has had opportunities to work with and perform in masterclasses for Julia Culp, Jefferey Zeigler, Itzhak Rashkovsky, and the Telegraph quartet. Last year, he spent his summer at the Bowdoin International Music Festival, and is participating in Amit Peled’s Online Cello Academy this summer. Aside from music, he enjoys eating good food, listening to music, and hanging out with friends.

John Kim(Clarinet)
John(Jaehoon) Kim, is a senior at Saratoga High School. He started playing the clarinet at the age of 10 and pursued his musical success since. He was previously part of California Youth Symphony and California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, but is currently only in the school orchestra and the Saratoga Wind Ensemble. Since 7th grade, he had qualified for the California All-State Music Education Conference(CASMEC). John is currently studying under the guidance of Hyemin Yun. He has won multiple Concerto Competitions including US International Music Competition, CPYO, KAMSA and was also invited to play at the Carnegie Hall for receiving 2nd place in the American Fine Arts Festival.

Irene Park(Piano/Flute)
Irene Park is a student at Archbishop Mitty High School in the Class of 2021. She began her piano studies at age 7 and has continued to pursue music ever since, currently studying with Hyunju Sung. As a pianist, Irene has performed in and won several prizes in USOMC and finished her Certificate of Merit level testing in 2017 with distinction in Branch Honors. She was also honored with soloing with the HopeBox Charity Youth Orchestra in the select Spero ensemble. Entering middle school, Irene also picked up the flute, joining the California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra her sophomore year and serving as the assistant principal for her section. She is also a member AMASE and her school’s wind ensemble, serving as a Wind Captain and section leader. In her free time, Irene enjoys listening to music and spending time with family and friends.

Yejin Song(Piano)
Yejin Song, 16, is a junior at The Harker School. She currently studies piano under Professor Hans Boepple. Yejin won first place at the 2018 MTAC State Piano Solo Competition, KAMSA Competition, Korea Times Youth Music Competition, and other top prizes at the SF Chopin Competition, Pacific Musical Society Competition, and MTNA. She was invited to participate in the 2018 John Perry Academy of Music Summer Festival, 2019 Southeastern Piano Festival, and 2019 Music Fest Perugia in Italy. Yejin also enjoys playing chamber music outside of MUSE, and her piano trio won first place at USOMC. At school, Yejin plays percussion in her school orchestra and is a VP for Tri-M Music Honor Society. Aside from music, she enjoys watching SF Giants baseball, dancing, and drinking boba with her friends.

Amy Jung(Piano)
Amy Jung, class of 2022, currently attends Mountain View High School. Picking up piano at the age of five, Amy diligently started participating in many recitals and competitons from a young age. She now studies under Dr. Sung Hyun Ju. Amy has taken part in and won awards in the 2018 KAMSA, Korean Times competiton, US Open music competition, the Youth Focus competition, New Star piano competition, and the MTAC piano competitions. She is also an active member of her church’s praise team, where she plays the keyboard. Aside from her involvement in music, she is also a dancer of 4 years. After performing a traditional fan dance, Amy placed first at the 2019 Korean American Contest held in Los Angeles.
